Yesterday, US-based Glam Media Inc. launched Glam Media in Germany, making Germany the first non-English speaking country in its range of outlets specializing in topic-specific content networks. The German media and technology company is modeled on the US pioneer. With more than 500 internet partners and 77 million unique users, its publishers’ network Glam.com is the platform with the largest online reach in the target group of women.
GLAM celebrated its successful start with numerous guests at the Berlin Fashion Week. “We are absolutely delighted about the German launch during the Berlin Fashion Week 2008, because this step also marks our entry into this country’s enormously active media landscape,” explains Samir Arora, IT entrepreneur, founder and CEO of Glam Media, Inc.: “From now on, we are able to build valuable services for the German advertising market as well as to offer even more interesting content for our primary target group, women.”
Glam Germany is a joint venture of Glam Media, Inc. and Burda Cross Media. The division run by Christiane zu Salm is also an investor in the American parent company. The new partnership is an element in Burda’s cross media strategy. Marcel Reichart, Managing Director of Burda Research & Development: “By investing in Glam Germany, we are strengthening our lead in the online growth market ‘Women and Lifestyle.’” The network establishes vertical market places—so-called verticals—where Burda brands are pooled and marketed together with partner brands.
From the very beginning, GLAM Germany offers comprehensive services: On the German platform, readers can access the latest news, background stories, images and videos on topics ranging from lifestyle to fashion and beauty. The German GLAM editorial team is headed by Julia Knolle, founder of the fashion blog LesMads developed in cooperation with Burda Research & Development. On GLAM, users can also find the websites of partners like LesMads and BurdaStyle.
Glam Media Germany is currently integrating the online media sales house Codex Media which specializes in women’s issues. The idea is to benefit from the marketing company’s network and premium expertise right from the start. Glam Media’s Managing Director is Ralf Hirt, who is also responsible for Glam Media’s global expansion activities, such as the most recent launch in Great Britain in June 2008.
The initial number of unique users of the German networking platform is already over one million in the internet target group of women aged 18 or older.
