The Film/Series International BAMBI 2007 / The Honorary Bambi 2007
Never before has desperation been so amusing and sexy! The Film/Series International BAMBI 2007 goes to "Desperate Housewives" star Eva Longoria. From the jury’s statement: "As one of the ‘Desperate Housewives’, Eva Longoria gives audiences an amazing insight into the lives of unknown stay-at-home wives. The American TV series has received numerous awards and has established a cult following in many countries (Germany). Thanks to her enthusiasm, her considerable comic talent and last but not least her great looks, Eva Longoria is the perfect cast for the satirically exaggerated role of a suburban vamp."
Eva Longoria, born in Corpus Christi, Texas, in 1975, wanted to become a professional athlete before she was discovered by a model agency and started a successful modeling career. When she won the "Miss Corpus Christi" contest, she was contacted by a Hollywood agent who got her first roles in series like "Beverly Hills 90210" and "General Hospital".
In 2004, Eva Longoria started to star in "Desperate Housewives"—and became a celebrity practically overnight. The next step were roles in big-screen movies, for example alongside Michael Douglas and Kiefer Sutherland in “The Sentinel”. Not only did the American Screen Actors Guild honored her acting in "Desperate Housewives": Earlier this year, Eva Longoria was named Most Popular Female TV Star and received the American "People's Choice Award".
The Honorary Bambi 2007 goes to Queen Rania of Jordan. She advocates women’s and children’s rights. She considers herself an intermediary between her Eastern culture and the West. The Honorary BAMBI 2007 goes to Queen Rania of Jordan. From the jury’s statement: “Queen Rania of Jordan is committed to the cause of women and children in her society with the goal in mind of giving them a better future. Bridging the gap between East and West, she promotes mutual understanding and tolerance. She meets the demands of her position with dignity while speaking out for the weak and helpless. Rania al Abdullah is a modern monarch for the 21st century, a queen of humanity.”
Rania al Abdullah, born in 1970, became Queen of Jordan in 1999. A supportive partner to her husband Abdullah II., King of Jordan, she has always given a personal touch to the way she fulfills her role. As the founder and president of Jordan River Foundation, the mother of four has made the prevention of child abuse and of violence against women her cause. The queen, who holds a degree in business administration, promotes the creation of jobs for highly-qualified women in her country. As the chairwoman of the Women’s Summit in Jordan’s capital Amman, she fights for a stronger position of women in the Arab world.
Queen Rania serves on the jury that selects the Young Global Leaders of the World Economic Summit, thus supporting a cultural exchange and the development of a global vision for 2020. The devout Muslim uses her trips to Western countries to help overcome misunderstandings and prejudices about Islam.
