In March 2007, publisher Hubert Burda and seven other leading members of the German business community signed the position paper for the initiative “2 Degrees – German Entrepreneurs for Climate Protection”. The initiative’s objectives are to support the German government in its efforts to establish a successful global climate protection agenda and to limit global warming to two degrees over pre-industrialization levels.
Since December 2006, Hubert Burda Media has staged several events with the purpose of calling attention to climate protection. The issue took center stage at the Climate Change Round Table in Munich in December, the Munich DLD Conference in January and the Climeaid Forum in Offenburg in May. In addition, the media company supports the publication of the “Book of Love” by the Forum of Young Global Leaders. The book is part of an international campaign that provides market-oriented solutions to the CO2 problem.
Hubert Burda Media also participates in the eco-management and audit scheme (EMAS) which requires companies to publish an environmental statement every three years as well as annual updates. Furthermore, Burda partners with Greenpeace to help save the rain forest.
