85 Years of Hubert Burda – Vision and Change

None

85 years full of courage, vision and decisive milestones: Hubert Burda has shaped the German media landscape with his keen sense for innovation. From founding Focus in 1993 to pioneering digitalisation, he has truly transformed the media world.

This February a new era begins at Hubert Burda Media: Hubert Burda passes on the entrepreneurial and publishing responsibilities to his children, Elisabeth Burda Furtwängler and Jacob Burda. Together, we reflect on the defining moments of his exceptional career and significant achievements.

Hubert Burda shares his thoughts on this occasion:

"My 85th birthday is a moment I celebrate with great gratitude and joy. I am grateful that my parents' legacy was once entrusted to me as a bond. The fact that I've been able to honour this trust and strengthen this bond over the decades is a great achievement by everyone in this family business. I'm particularly happy that I can now pass on this bond, this wonderful company, to my children, Elisabeth and Jacob. The fact that they have decided to take on the entrepreneurial and publishing responsibility and lead Burda into the future in challenging times makes me proud and fills me with great confidence. I share the view of Walter Benjamin: ‘Wherever communication changes, the foundations of society change.’ The printing press, the internet, social media and now artificial intelligence. At Burda, we've always seen change and transformation as opportunities, and we've known how to take advantage of them. The belief in ourselves, the trust in our creativity, the joy of creating something new, of designing media products, and the fun of working together - that's Burda, and that's how Burda will remain: A company for people".
