Back in the Big Apple

None

As the nexus of major media companies and agencies, global corporations as well as the world's leading financial center, New York City has become one of the most attractive locations for startups and an important player in the transatlantic triangle of Israel, Europe and the US. This is why Europe‘s leading innovation conference DLD (Digital, Life, Design) is coming back to New York City for its fourth conference on May 11th 2017.

Familiar location – new format

The DLD-hosts Steffi Czerny (DLD Founder), Yossi Vardi (Investor & DLD Chairman) and Paul-Bernhard Kallen (Burda CEO & DLD Chairman) are expecting 80 speakers and 700 participants in Manhattan’s futuristic IAC Building which was designed by Frank Gehry. For the first time, DLD New York City presents itself in a two-part format: While the conference with curated panels is taking place on May 11th at the IAC Building, the second day (May 12th) brings attendees as part of a workshop tour directly to different innovation and tech locations in New York City – following the DLD slogan “connect the unexpected”.

“There are so many exciting and innovative companies in New York City – it’s inevitable to bring our DLD participants directly in touch with these founders, CEOs and visionaries that are the driving force behind the success. We will be visiting the offices of Vimeo, Giphy as well as Genspace, the world's first community biology lab and discuss the future of cities at the New Yorker startup Knotel. I’m very much looking forward to two exciting days in the City!”

From artificial intelligence to Donald Trump

At DLD New York, Recode journalist Kara Swisher will be debating on current American politics and bestselling author of “The Second Machine Age” Andrew McAfee will discuss business models in the era of machine intelligence with one of the leading founders in New York City, Hilary Mason (Fast Forward Labs). Dominik Richter, founder of the German startup Hello Fresh, which has become one of the fastest growing companies in the US since Uber, and Babak Hodjat (Sentient), a serial-entrepreneur and expert for artificial intelligence, will be joining the conference as well.

Fake news in the spotlight

Fake news are an integral part of discussions in the media nowadays. This is why the expert for Russia of the German broadcaster “Deutsche Welle” Ingo Mannteufel, investor John Borthwick (Betaworks), Rahul Chopra (Storyful) and Rebecca Blumenstein ("The New York Times") will be discussing this topic on the DLD New York stage. The panel will be moderated by Jeff Jarvis, journalism professor at the City University of New York and founder of the global News Integrity Initiative that aims to fight systematically distributed fake news.
