The BAMBI 2024 in the “Our Earth” category will be awarded tonight to one of the most successful extreme mountaineers of our time: Reinhold Messner.
Kevin Costner, one of Hollywood’s most celebrated figures with a unique career both in front of and behind the camera has left an indelible mark on the film industry: as an actor, director, and producer. His greatest success came with Dances with Wolves (1990), the Western he produced and directed. The film became the highest-grossing movie of the year worldwide, winning seven Oscars, and instantly making Costner one of the most sought-after talents in the global film industry. Another unforgettable performance was his leading role in The Bodyguard (1992) alongside Whitney Houston, whose famous soundtrack "I Will Always Love You" helped make the film a worldwide sensation. Kevin Costner receives the BAMBI award in the ‘Actor International’ category for his acting excellence, visionary creativity, and outstanding contributions to the film industry.

After studying at California State University, Kevin Costner's journey to Hollywood began in the corporate world at a marketing company. In pursuit of his acting dreams, he took acting classes in the evenings, leading to his breakout roles in the western Silverado (1985), the thriller No Way Out (1987), and the baseball dramas Bull Durham (1988) and Field of Dreams (1989). His recent work on Yellowstone, a modern western series now in its fifth season, has reaffirmed his influence on contemporary television. In 2024, Costner will take on his most ambitious project yet, the four-part epic Horizon saga.
Beyond acting, Costner is a passionate musician, leading his country band Kevin Costner & Modern West since 2007. He is also an environmental advocate, having helped develop technology to separate oil from water. His company provided 32 centrifuge machines following the Gulf of Mexico oil spill, a project he supported for years.
Since 1948, BAMBI has honoured individuals who have made a significant impact in Germany, achieved outstanding accomplishments, and serve as role models for the German public. This year, the award will be presented in up to twelve categories. BAMBI’s media partner is Prime Video, and the event will be streamed live at prime time from Bavaria Film Studios on November 7, 2024.
For the second consecutive year, BAMBI will be held in Munich, sponsored by the Bavarian State Chancellery. The event is supported by numerous partners, including major companies and brands. Streaming service Prime Video will broadcast the award ceremony live as a new media partner.
