Bryan Adams is honored as a legend

None

Bryan Adams is a musician and photographer who has written some of the most iconic songs of all time, he has created a unique body of artistic work, and demonstrated exceptional social commitment. This year, the BAMBI 2024 Award in the category ‘Legend‘ will be presented to him.

"Bryan Adams has composed the soundtrack to our lives. For over four decades, his melodic rock has been a constant presence, with heartfelt songs that speak directly to our emotions. Adams is a master of timeless, feel-good rock, drawing us into his world with irresistibly catchy tunes that make us sing along, feel deeply, and reminisce. From anthems like 'Summer of ‘69' to ballads like 'Everything I Do (I Do It for You)', Adams' musical range and unmistakable style have cemented his place in music history. His raspy yet smooth voice is instantly recognisable, and his ability to reinvent himself artistically is remarkable. Whether it’s the classic rock ballad 'All For Love' – a collaboration with Rod Stewart and Sting – his contributions to major film soundtracks, or his unforgettable anthem for the Winter Olympics in Vancouver, Adams has consistently proven his versatility and artistic depth.  As a composer, guitarist, producer, and singer, Adams says ‘he doesn’t fit the stereotypical rockstar‘. Yet his enduring popularity, celebrated tours, and the global hits he has created for both himself and other artists have firmly established his legendary status."

The BAMBI Jury

Born in Kingston, Ontario, Canada in 1959, Bryan Adams left high school at 15 to pursue his passion for music, and started playing in Vancouver's rock clubs. His debut album, ‘Bryan Adams’, was released in 1980, and by the early-1980s, he had achieved his first major hits with songs like 'Straight From the Heart' and 'Run to You'. In 1985, he joined Tina Turner as the opening act on her world tour with their smash hit ‘It’s Only Love‘.

He has written music for cinema with films such as the DreamWorks production ‘Spirit - Stallion Of The Cimmaron’, The Three Musketeers, and Don Juan De Marco, and his song 'Everything I Do (I Do It for You)', the theme for the motion picture Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves, became a global sensation, topping the charts in 19 countries. Over the course of his 40-year career, Adams has sold over 100 million records worldwide, and has also written songs for legendary artists such as Joe Cocker, Bonnie Tyler, Tina Turner, Johnny Hallyday, Bonnie Raitt, Neil Diamond, and KISS.

Bryan Adams has received numerous accolades, including twenty one Canadian Juno Awards including ‘Artist of the Year,’ 3 Oscar and 5 Golden Globe nominations, a Grammy, and the BAMBI Award in 1998 in the ‘Pop International’ category.

In addition to his success in music, Bryan has gained significant recognition for his photography and has been been honoured with three German LeadAwards, and was inducted into the Royal Photographic Society for his contributions to portrait photography. He’s captured expressive portraits of icons such as Cher, Rammstein, Harry Belafonte, Mick Jagger, and even Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip. In 2003, he co-founded Zoo magazine in Berlin that promotes fashion and culture in Europe, with a particular focus on Berlin. He continues to work with the magazine as a photographer and his striking portraits of famous figures from the worlds of music, film, and politics have been exhibited in galleries around the world.

Throughout his career, Bryan Adams has been committed to philanthropy. Proceeds from his concerts have supported charitable organisations such as The Prince’s Trust, Live Aid, and other global initiatives. He has performed for Greenpeace, Amnesty International, and at the Invictus Games organised by Prince Harry. Adams is a vocal advocate for the preservation of the environment, and support for victims of disasters such as earthquakes, tsunamis and war.

His deep commitment to humanitarian causes is reflected in his tours, where proceeds are donated to charity particularly the environment, where on his ‘Shine A Light‘ tour he planted over one million trees with DHL. Through the Bryan Adams Foundation, he provides critical support to people in need, with the motto ‘helping people help people‘.
