Burda brands win big at the European Publishing Awards

The winners of the European Publishing Awards 2022 have been announced, with an impressive five accolades for BurdaVerlag. Three of its brands were chosen out of around 300 submissions from 16 media markets. Focus and einfachbacken.de received two awards each, while Harper’s Bazaar prevailed in the “Cover One-Shot” category.

Each year, the European Publishing Awards are presented to Europe’s best magazines, newspapers and digital media. A jury of publishing experts from the “Magazine”, “Digital” and “Corporate Media” segments awarded prizes to the following Burda brands and departments:

Magazines:

  • Politics & Society: Focus
  • Infographic: Focus
  • Cover One-Shot: Harper’s Bazaar

Digital:

  • Audience Marketing: einfachbacken.de
  • Social Media Strategy: einfachbacken.de

Focus and einfachbacken.de win two awards each

The einfachbacken.de online portal launched in August 2018 with the ambitious goal of becoming Germany’s number one digital destination for independent baking advice. einfachbacken.de achieved this goal within a very short time (and recorded more than 9.8 million visits in Feb. 2022), delighting beginners and ambitious amateur bakers on all digital channels with its authentic step-by-step instructions and fail-proof recipes. Its awards for “Audience Marketing” and “Social Media Strategy” are truly the icing on the cake.

A modern news magazine can provide more than just news: particularly in times of crisis, Focus offers guidance and helps readers to form their own opinions and make the right decisions. Focus has been a source of fact-based journalism for more than 25 years, tackling the entire spectrum of socially relevant topics with great value for users, high-quality images and the right infographics. The European Publishing Awards jury honoured its achievements once again by naming it the winner of the “Politics & Society” and “Infographic” categories.

Harper’s Bazaar wins the “Cover One-Shot” award

Harper’s Bazaar is unconventional, extravagant, playful and luxurious with high journalistic standards. This includes its cover concepts. Editor-in-chief Kerstin Schneider sees the magazine’s covers as a reflection of its topics, which can be staged in many different ways. This approach results in unique compositions featuring hand-picked celebrities, such as the Beyoncé cover (9/2021) that made such an impression on the European Publishing Awards jury.

Winners honoured in Vienna

The winners of this year’s European Publishing Awards are set to receive their prizes in Vienna’s Palais Niederösterreich on 19 and 20 June.
