BurdaInternational, which bundles the foreign activities of media and tech company Hubert Burda Media, is planning to invest about 55 million euros in Poland. In line with its five-year investment strategy, BurdaInternational will be building an e-commerce excellence hub in Rzeszów to support the company's internationalization in new technologies and e-commerce.

As part of the broader investment strategy in its digital future and via its local representation Burda Media Polska, BurdaInternational has acquired the majority stake in the Polish e-commerce platform Shoko that operates the online store Cocolita.pl. The founder Hubert Gorecki and his management team will remain on board, with Shoko continuing to operate separately. The transaction is subject to the approval of the Polish Office of Competition and Consumer Protection. BurdaInternational will be leveraging the acquisition to accelerate its transformation towards an e-commerce and technology company with a focus on the lifestyle and beauty segment in Poland.

Cocolita.pl is a dynamically growing e-commerce company based in Rzeszów which markets a wide portfolio of beauty products.

“Poland has always been key for us, as reflected in our five-year investment plan which earmarks more than 50 million euros to develop its market. We intend to build an e-commerce excellence hub in Rzeszów, thereby making Poland the new home of our innovation hub and creating valuable new jobs.

The acquisition of Cocolita will generate further, exciting growth potential in the Polish consumer market. While our publishing business – an integral component of our long-standing market legacy – will remain central to Burda Media Polska, this investment enables us to accelerate our digital transformation. I’m delighted at the prospect of working with our new colleagues at Cocolita!”

Martin Weiss, CEO BurdaInternational
