In December 2021, the luxury lifestyle magazine Prestige Hong Kong has launched Women of Power, an initiative that seeks to honour women who have enjoyed success – in the film industry, as athletes, with their entrepreneurial spirit, and much more. But Women of Power is more than just a list of names of women deemed successful by traditional standards. It’s a collective built in the hope of creating change in the community, closing the gender gap, and recognising women who paved the way for others.
"As we began the process of the Women of Power list, we gave up our golden number of 100 women, because we realised on the way that this wasn’t about achieving an arbitrary round number that looked nice as a cover line: this was about change. Changing the status quo, changing the game. We went for quality, over quantity."
Oceana Ou, Managing Director of BurdaLuxury Hong Kong
The Women of Power list will continue to grow in future years, with this year’s 72 honourees remaining a permanent part of the collective. In the months to come, Prestige Hong Kong will be creating forums for discussion, mentorship opportunities, panel talks, and summits.
The French division BurdaBleu has recently launched a cookery magazine – Five Starr. Named after famous French rapper and actor JoeyStarr, it will be published twice a year. As the editor-in-chief of this new title, he is supported by an in-house editor who supplies the requisite journalistic expertise. JoeyStarr is a gourmet who loves to cook and has been totally invested in this project from day one. And Five Starr magazine conjures up his Epicurean vision: Featuring his recipes, it guides readers on an expedition through his culinary universe, his favourite locations, and much more. For every issue of the special collector’s format sold, one Euro is being donated to an organisation personally chosen by JoeyStarr – the "Refugee Food Festival" which supports refugee chefs.
