Burda is active in 14 different countries on three continents. To see the bigger picture, we ask international colleagues in Burda offices all around the world to show us how they work. For the latest stop on our world tour, we spoke to the team at BurdaLuxury Singapore.
After the office has been operating in a light industrial area for more than 20 years, we moved into the Orchard Road vicinity, which is Singapore’s premier shopping, business and lifestyle district, in September 2021. In addition to a modern space designed by well-known interior designer Peter Tay, the rectangular layout is also flanked by large picture windows on two sides that look out to an abundance of greenery. Our immediate neighbours are the private member’s clubs “The Tanglin Club” “The American Club”, while key luxury shopping destinations like the shopping mall “ION Orchard” and the shopping and commercial centre “Ngee Ann City” are a short walk away.
Singapore is a small island city-state (Switzerland is 57 times bigger than Singapore in land size) and densely populated, which means while the landscape is largely built-up, all kinds of facilities and amenities are always within easy reach. Singapore’s public transportation is efficient and reliable, so getting around is quick and painless – a car ride across the entire width of Singapore along the 42.8 km Pan-Island Expressway takes just 36 minutes in light traffic. The Civil Service prides itself on its efficiency and high service standards, which means there is minimal red tape and time to getting things done. Our multi-cultural city is also a global financial hub, which makes the social and working environment here cosmopolitan, diverse and inclusive. However, due to our location just north of the Equator, the weather is perpetually sunny, hot and very humid.
Since meeting with clients and socialites, and attending all manner of luxury events, are a regular feature in our work, we like to retreat into the comfort of our homes after a long day. We also have a well-stocked wine fridge in the office.
