Nature is not left or right, male or female, merely edifying or dispensable. Above all, it is one thing: highly endangered, and that endangers us as a species. It is up to us to avert this threat – in a non-partisan, interdisciplinary and effective way. This is exactly what DLD Nature will be doing on 12 and 13 September 2024 in Munich.
Without diversity, everything falls apart. This holds true for nature as much as it does for crisis management — and this event reflects that understanding. European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen will give a keynote speech on the topic and climate researcher Johan Rockstroem will explain planetary boundaries. Indian social activist Vandana Shiva will analyse the gender dimension and the political economist and sustainability policy expert Maja Göpel provides insights into her research on how transformation can be actively shaped. Bavarian Minister President Markus Söder and Club of Rome Co-President Sandrine Dixson-Declève will analyse the role of politics. The importance of technological innovations such as AI will be presented by Stefan Schwarz, CEO of Swarovski Optik, David Diallo, founder of goodcarbon, and Jane Lawton of the Earth Species Project, among others. And Dutch General Tom Middendorp will show why species loss must also be recognised as a global security risk.
These speakers, along with over 70 others, will address the most pressing and underestimated issue of our time. More than half of the world's economic output depends directly or indirectly on the services provided by nature, making biodiversity a key economic sector worldwide. If, for example, pollinators were to go extinct, clean drinking water would become a luxury and fertile soil would vanish, leading to inevitable armed conflicts and increased migration. Biodiversity directly effects security, health and prosperity and is vital for the survival of the planet and all its species.
At DLD Nature, experts develop innovative approaches that forge alliances and foster collaboration across science, business, technology and the arts to enable a future worth living – globally and for all.
Maria Furtwängler, actress, producer and co-founder of the MaLisa Foundation, and Steffi Czerny, founder of the DLD (Digital, Life, Design) innovation platform, have invited clever minds, companies, and organisations with sustainable concepts – from Patagonia to Allianz, from the Helmholtz Centre for Environmental Research to UnternehmerTUM’s startups, from the Senckenberg Society to the Zoological Society of London – to act as curators and hosts. On 12 and 13 September, Munich will turn into a stage for decision-makers who are ready to move beyond mere discussion - they want to act together and usher in a new era of cooperation. Bickering and procrastination are no longer an option.
Renowned zoologist Auguste von Bayern and physician, TV host and author Eckart von Hirschhausen will also come to the DLD Nature stage as co-hosts. For him, the health of the planet and human health go hand in hand. Jan-Gisbert Schultze of Acton Capital Partners, who is committed to regenerative agriculture, and Helmut Schönenberger, CEO of UnternehmerTUM – Europe’s leading start-up hub, as well as the Landbanking Group founder Martin Stuchtey complete the group of prominent co-hosts.
DLD Nature partners are Edelman, BMW Foundation, goodcarbon, Acton Capital Partners, Octopus Energy, Brainlab, Würth Elektronik, Rossmann, PreZero, Swarovski Optik, Burda Principal Investments, Sixt, MaLisa Foundation, Gesunde Erde - Gesunde Menschen Foundation (Healthy Planet – Healthy People), Munich Urban Colab, #beebetter and Mein kleiner schoener Garten.
