The Tribute to Bambi Foundation will specifically support refugee children and young people here in Germany as part of an emergency aid programme.
Children experience their surroundings by playing. The impact is all the greater when familiar surroundings, friends and toys have to be left behind overnight. A scenario many Ukrainian children had to experience this year. To give traumatised children comfort and hope again, the sewing and handicrafts brand Burda Style, in cooperation with the Tribute to Bambi Foundation, is launching the campaign "Made with Love" to sew and crochet for a good cause.
The Burda comforting monster was created by parents and pedagogues to help children deal with traumatic (war) experiences in a playful way. Burda Style calls on its crafting community to sew or crochet the comfort monster and then send it in. For this purpose, Burda's successful traditional brand is offering a free downloadable pattern and free crochet instructions.
"Our first big DIY campaign 'Sewn with Love' showed us what our crafting community is capable of and how we can do good with handicrafts. It was therefore clear to us that we had to call for sewing and crocheting for a good cause again because the willingness to help among our readers is immense. The last campaign exceeded all our expectations, and we hope that with the help of our community we will be able to give new courage to many traumatised children with the comforting monster campaign 'Made with Love'.”
Anne Ebeling, Director Product & Marketing at Burda Style
In cooperation with the Tribute to Bambi Foundation, the submitted comforting monsters will be donated to the foundation’s support project Aetas Children’s Foundation, which provides psychosocial emergency care for traumatised children. Burda's children's magazine publisher Blue Ocean illustrated a story about a comforting monster as part of the campaign, which was visualised by Burda Style in an animated film. Patricia Riekel, Chairwoman of the Board of the Tribute to Bambi Foundation, is the spokesperson for the short film. And Burda's neighbourhood platform Nebenan.de is also accompanying Burda Style as a media partner in the comfort monster campaign – as it did for the campaign "Sewn with Love".
At the beginning of the year, Burda Style and the Tribute to Bambi Foundation donated more than 1,200 baby sleeping bags sewn by the Burda Style community to the "Babylotse" project, which supports families during challenging times with newborns.
