The sewing magazine Burda Style celebrates its 70th anniversary with today’s September issue – and it takes the opportunity to reminisce about seven decades in the fashion world. It was 1950 when the magazine's first issue was published under the name "burda Moden". The founding editor was Aenne Burda, the mother of Hubert Burda and a visionary with a mission: to give women access to chic, fashionable clothing – inspired by the Paris Fashion Shows – that they could create themselves using sewing patterns. With focused determination, business acumen and an energetic leadership style, the entrepreneur laid the foundations for a success story that continues to this day. Aenne Burda’s passion for fashion, new fabrics, bold details, and refined patterns is still epitomized by the brand Burda Style.

Burda Style’s anniversary is being celebrated in the spirit of Aenne Burda. After the springtime release of the Heritage Collection – a compendium of lifestyle articles with original design elements from the 1950s – the anniversary issue of the magazine is now being published. Awaiting readers are fascinating stories about the brand Burda Style, Aenne Burda, and the fashion and designers of the 1950s. The issue also includes then-and-now comparisons of the magazine and a special anniversary quiz. It also features the eight most beautiful couture designs from the founding year 1950, complete with patterns and all rounded off by closing words from star designer and Aenne Burda’s companion Wolfgang Joop. In addition to the “regular” cover, a retro version in the historic burda Moden look is available exclusively for Burda Style subscribers. Another highlight: the anniversary issue's editorial will be printed in black and white, just like in the old days.
