The real challenge, for many, is navigating the overwhelming number of options. But now, it's time to make a decision. Fans of TV series have the power to choose: Which production will take home the coveted BAMBI audience award for "Best Series of the Year"? Three distinct German productions are nominated for the prestigious Golden Deer: Crooks (Netflix), Maxton Hall (Prime Video), and Die Zweiflers (ARD). Voting remains open until the live broadcast of the award ceremony on November 7. The winner will be revealed live during the BAMBI ceremony.
Crooks – Netflix (01379 - 36 60 + final number 01*)
Tough on the outside, soft on the inside: Frederick Lau and Christoph Krutzler star as two endearing petty criminals in Crooks. Despite being hardened crooks, their bumbling misadventures, caught between rival gangs, violence, and chaos across Berlin, Vienna, and Marseille, make you want to give them a hug. This high-energy buddy series follows two overburdened small-time criminals who never planned on becoming partners. Season 1 of Crooks was streamed 15.7 million times on Netflix in the first half of 2024 and was also nominated for a German Television Award in the Best Director category. Season 2 is already in the works.
"The modern visual style and breakneck pace give Crooks an international appeal. What sets this series apart in the genre is its sharp critique of toxic power structures, along with Frederick Lau and Christoph Krutzler’s compelling performances. They bring a genuine depth and likability to their characters, portraying their fears and struggles convincingly."

Maxton Hall – Prime Video (01379 - 36 60 + final number 02*)
Sometimes fairy tales come true. In Maxton Hall – The World Between Us, Harriett Herbig-Matten plays a sharp-witted girl from a middle-class background who believes in doing what’s right, while, Damian Hardung portrays an arrogant heir from the British upper class who thinks money can buy anything. Over time, these two opposites grow closer, episode by episode. Based on Mona Kasten’s bestselling novel, this visually stunning adaptation topped Prime Video charts in 120 countries.
"The series immerses us in a luxurious world that’s usually off-limits. It’s a modern fairy tale brought to life by a talented young cast, led by Damian Hardung and Harriett Herbig-Matten. Maxton Hall – The World Between Us explores timeless themes of love, self-discovery, and the search for identity in a fresh, contemporary light."

Die Zweiflers – ARD (01379 - 36 60 + final number 03*)
Blood is thicker than water, or so they say. But some families question that belief. The Doubters follows one such family. When the patriarch of a large Jewish family in Frankfurt starts making plans for the future, chaos ensues, bringing with it intrigue, turf wars, love, and heartbreak. Sunnyi Melles and Aaron Altaras shine as the leads in this vivid, quirky family drama, which also features a strong ensemble cast. The Doubters was honoured with three awards at the Cannes Film Festival.
"This series offers a rare, rich portrayal of Jewish life, crafted with a remarkable level of care and precision. Each character is fully developed and treated with respect, which is a true storytelling achievement. The Doubters represents a new generation of family dramas, filmed with an observant and unobtrusive camera that allows the stars—Sunnyi Melles, Aaron Altaras, and Mike Burstyn – to truly shine."
